The 2009 Best in Maryland Awards Call for Entries Now Available!
Celebrating What's Classic & New

Deadline for Early Bird entries is July 10 and all entries must be received by July 24.

Go to http://www.prsamd.org/awards/best_in_maryland.html download the 2009 Best in Maryland Awards Call for Entries and all associated forms today! Not only have we reorganized and renumbered our categories, but we have added new categories as well. This year, we have two new program categories - Blogger Campaign and Social Media/Viral Marketing - as well as one new single-piece category, Blogs. Plus, we are offering an award for the program entry that best represents our conference theme, "Celebrating What's Classic & New." Our judges will choose the program that displayed the best use of traditional PR strategies while tapping the new PR tactics.

Remember, early bird deadline is July 10, and the final deadline is July 24.

Social Media Tips From an Obama Campaign Insider & American Red Cross

The Changing Landscape for the Public Relations Profession

Join moderator David Harrison, along with industry leaders from the Obama Campaign and the American Red Cross, in a panel discussion on Thursday, June 18, to learn how to successfully negotiate the rapidly changing public relations landscape. Emily Williams will share her experiences as a key figure behind the stunningly successful social media efforts of Barack Obama's presidential bid, and Wendy Harmon will show how one of the world's leading non-profit organizations has gotten so much attention for its ability to effectively implement new technology in its communications.

Register by this Friday, June 12, to save $15. Fees are PRSA Members - $20, $35 after 6/12; Non-Members - $35, $50 after 6/12; PRSSA Students - $10; Non-PRSSA Member Students - $20.

Speed Pitching: Present Your Idea in Three Minutes or Less

Have a story idea worth pitching? Bring it with you to the July 16 monthly meeting, Meet the Press: Speed Pitching, where editors from local media will listen to your crafted pitch. Be quick because you'll only have three minutes before the bell rings. Invited media include major radio & TV stations, key print and electronic press, trade and specialty press.

Launched a New Blog or Social Media Campaign?

If so, you'll like the Chapter's three new Best in Maryland award categories to celebrate our changing landscape. We've added two new program categories - Blogger Campaign, and Social Media/Viral Marketing - as well as one new single-piece category, Blogs.

  • Blogger Campaign: Programs proactively utilizing blogs to communicate a message about a product, service or organization.
  • Social Media/Viral Marketing: Program that gets key audiences talking or provides an avenue for conversation through the use of social media or viral marketing.
  • Blogs: Web-based journals, or blogs, that communicated either a corporate, public service, or industry position.

2009 PRSA Association/Nonprofit Section Conference

The Public Relations Society of America Association/Nonprofit Section Conference is gearing up for its Summer Conference at the ASAE offices in Washington, D.C., on Friday, July 31, 2009. The full-day conference promotes learning and networking, specifically for communications and public relations professionals serving in the association and nonprofit sector. It will focus on how to create greater engagement of members and donors through use of social marketing and strong retention campaign strategies. Weinberg Harris & Associates Names Kriski Betz Account Supervisor

Weinberg Harris & Associates (WHA), a Baltimore-based marketing and public relations agency, has promoted Kristi Betz, a graduate of Towson State University, to the position of Account Supervisor.  As Account Supervisor, Betz will manage the strategic planning and implementation of public relations and marketing campaigns for a variety of the agency's accounts including The Strata Group, Cosmetic Dental FX and nine General Growth Properties malls including The Mall in Columbia, Towson Town Center, Christiana Mall, Mondawmin Mall and White Marsh Mall. Betz will also oversee new business development strategy for the agency.
