Questions To Ask When
Developing A Social Media Strategy
There's nothing hotter than "social media"
these days. Heck, unless you're a character on
"Mad Men," it's pretty hard to talk
about PR, advertising, or marketing without bringing
up Facebook, Twitter, or any of the other rapidly-multiplying
social media sites as part of your overall plan.
But what do you actually do with social media?
How can you use it to engage customers, build
sales, or find prospects? Sadly a lot of people
are talking about it, few seem to be thinking
about a strategy for using it to actually accomplish
something.
That’s where Sean Carton comes in. Sean
is the chief creative officer of idfive,
where he helps clients understand the constantly
changing intersections between design, marketing,
communication and technology. As the founder of
one of Baltimore's first Web development firms
in 1995, the founding dean of the School of Design
and Media at Philadelphia University, and the
co-author of one of the first books about the
Web ("The Mosaic Quick Tour" series)
in 1993, Carton has over 12 years of experience
designing, developing, planning and executing
interactive media. Read more about Sean including
his bio,
list
of published books, and his blog AttentionScan.
Sean will dispel myths about social media strategies:
“Here's a newsflash, folks: ‘Let's
put up a Facebook site’ isn't a strategy.
Telling your clients that they should ‘get
in on this social media thing’ is like saying
‘you need a press release.’”
Then he’ll provide us with a practical 10-step
framework that you can use with your clients (or
your own company) to develop a comprehensive,
intelligent, and reality-based social media strategy
that fits into your overall communications plan
and gets results.
