Changing Landscape for the Public Relations Profession

Out with the old and in with the new … join us for a look at PR strategies that take advantage of the new tools while still working the traditional media. You’ll hear from two different groups on the new strategy and an update on the Maryland media front from a journalist turned PR specialist.

Thanks to University of Baltimore's School of Communications Design, our event co-sponsor.

Moderator: David Harrison, President, Harrison Communications

Panelists:
Wendy Harman, Director of Social Media, American Red Cross, Washington, DC
The Red Cross is often cited as an organization using Twitter to maximum benefit. Wendy will discuss the nuts and bolts of using Twitter and share the Red Cross' national success story in using Twitter as a communications tool.

Emily Williams, Interactive Account Executive, MSHC Partners
Emily took a leave of absence to work for the Obama campaign, directing much of its online efforts. Drawing from this, she will share first hand knowledge of how the campaign leveraged social networking, text messaging and other strategies to succeed. She will discuss online PR tools and techniques, and how to incorporate them into an overall communications strategy.
