Benefits of Accreditation
Preparing for the Accreditation exam helps professionals broaden, validate and refresh their knowledge. Having the “APR” designation signifies a high level of experience and competence. It also demonstrates a serious commitment to the profession, to corporate management, colleagues and clients. More and more employers are seeking Accredited candidates for senior-and management-level positions.

Who is Eligible? PRSA members who have at least five years of paid, full-time experience in the professional practice of public relations, or in the teaching or administration of public relations courses in an accredited college or university may sit for the Accreditation exam. How Does PRSA-MD Support Candidates?
The chapter offers, free of charge, a six-session
workshop program designed to familiarize candidates
with both written and oral exam content and format.
These sessions and accompanying home assignments
are designed to work with and complement a candidate’s
individual plan of study.
"After graduating
from college, I made a promise to myself
that I would try to obtain my APR as soon
as I became eligible. I had been president
of the PRSSA while at University of Maryland,
College Park, and then became active with
PRSA MD at the start of my career. Pursuing
my APR was a way for me to take that involvement
to the next level.
I view the APR designation as validation
of my experience and level of knowledge.
Above and beyond any other impact that having
your APR can have, I think it can increase
your confidence in your own PR abilities
and the counsel you are capable of providing."
--Jennifer Lavin, Director of Corporate
Communications, 1st Mariner Bank
"Although I didn't have any plans
to pursue my APR, but was 'gently pushed'
into it by a former supervisor, earning
my accreditation has been one of the best
things I have done for my career!
Not only does it provide you with instant
credibility in the workplace, with coworkers,
clients, and other professionals alike,
but it also refreshes and crystallizes your
level of knowledge and experience, increasing
your own confidence in your professional
abilities. Overall, earning my APR was an
unbelievably, and surprising, positive,
rewarding, and affirming experience, both
professionally and personally. "

Consultant for UnitedHealth Group and PRSA
